Playgroup is a place to have fun and make new friends. It provides the opportunity for children to interact with others and take part in group activities. It also gives parents / caregivers the chance to socialise and share their experiences, ideas or concerns with other people.

Ardtornish Playgroup welcomes babies (from birth) and children up to 5 years of age.
A parent or caregiver must stay with their child during session time.
(Mums, Dads, Grandparents etc or other carers are always welcome.)

Ardtornish Playgroup currently has two sessions:
Wednesday  9.30 – 11.30
Friday    9.30 – 11.30

We can offer other days for new groups.
For further information on vacancies please contact our President or Secretary. (See contact numbers on front of brochure.)

Baby Bounce: Monday Mornings

  • At our playgroup the parent or caregiver needs to supervise their children at all times and be nearby to assist the child when necessary.
  • All members are expected to be involved in the day to day running of our playgroup, including set up, cleaning, organising activities and pack up.
  • Please bring a snack for the children to share at morning tea. Cordial is provided, although you may like to bring your own if you wish.
  • Also due to NO HAT NO PLAY policy at kindergartens and schools, playgroup is a good time to get your child accustomed to wearing a hat during outside play.

At Ardtornish we pride ourselves in having a well-equipped playgroup.
The kitchen has cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, fridge, stove, microwave and kettle for making tea, coffee and hot chocolate, which is also provided.
Our craft cupboard is well stocked and there is a wide range of indoor toys, books, jigsaw puzzles, playdough and a large blackboard / magnet board. We also have a sandpit, swing set, outdoor equipment, cubby house and a water play wagon.
There are high chairs, a change table and playpen for babies and a fully stocked first aid kit and sunscreen.
The premises are air conditioned and heated.

During each session, besides playing together, the children generally will do an activity. Each session time is responsible for rostering the parents / caregivers within their groups to prepare an activity for the children. Books are available for ideas, but the activities should be kept simple and each parent / caregivers support and contribution is essential. Craft supplies required for these activities are generally available in our craft cupboard. Following the craft activity the children sit together and have morning tea, and then free play until the end of the session.

Each year the playgroup has two special party days.
EASTER PARTY – Each session organises their own Easter party and the Playgroup supplies Easter eggs for all the children.
CHRISTMAS PARTY – All sessions join together for a Christmas party and Father Christmas arrives with a gift for each child.

Our Annual general Meeting is held in February when a new committee is elected. The committee consists of a President, Secretary, Treasurer, Purchasing Officer and a minimum of five committee members, who are also generally the group leaders for their respective sessions.
The group leaders are responsible for greeting all new members, helping with inquiries, recording attendance and ensuring the session runs smoothly.
Committee meetings are held once or twice a term and your attendance and input at these meetings is welcomed.

The Playgroup Association charges an annual fee, which may vary from year to year. This provides insurance cover for member families.

Ardtornish Playgroup fees are currently set at $20.00 per family, per term.

Our playgroup is a non-profit organisation. The term fees go towards the purchase of craft, kitchen and cleaning supplies, new toys and equipment and building maintenance.
They also help subsidise the cost of Easter eggs and Christmas presents. (The rest of this money comes from fundraising.)

The Playgroup generally has several fundraising activities throughout the year.
These have always been well supported, which has enabled us to maintain and improve the building and facilities.

The Playgroup Hall is hired to members and non members at a low fee of $15.00 an hour with minimum of 2 hours, $50.00 bond applies to non members.
A great place to have a party or catch up with friends.
For more information and bookings please call Melissa or the school and speak to the front office secretary

We hope you and your children enjoy being involved at playgroup and make friendships to continue through kindergarten, school and many years after.
